For generations, tag team wrestling has been one of the foundations of professional wrestling. Teams have been built, rivalries have been born, blood and sweat have been spilled in the shared pursuit of greatness. Some of the greatest moments in wrestling history have happened when two men stood side by side, fighting for the same thing. My father knew that better than most. Dusty Rhodes understood what tag team wrestling could do and what it could mean to the people who stepped inside that ring, together. That’s why The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was created. It was a way to honor that tradition. Now, we look for tag teams of the future. At NXT, we got a lot of them, ripped, roaring and ready to go. Since 2015, teams have entered this tournament with the same goal, win The Dusty Cup, and now The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic returns. Teams from across WWE, NXT, Raw, SmackDown, AAA, EVOLVE, all coming together for the same opportunity. 14 teams will try to etch their names into history and add to a legacy that began long before they ever step through these ropes. My father’s name lives on through this tournament, but now it’s up to the new generation to show what that name means. Kendal Grey Therapy Session 

Therapist: So, Kendal, how are you feeling?

Kendal Grey: I mean, I’m fine. I’ve been dealing with vertigo just fine. I’ve had dizzy moments, but they come and go, and honestly, I’m just ready to get back in the ring.

Therapist: That’s not what I mean. How are you feeling?

Kendal Grey: Look, it sucks. Losing the NXT Women’s Championship was hard enough, then I got vertigo, and now I am not cleared. I can’t even fight for what I lost, and that’s the hardest part. I mean, I wake up every morning and put one foot in front of the other. I just don’t know where I’m going. I’m lost. Restless. It’s like I’m stuck in this hole that I can’t get out of. And I want to; I just don’t how.

Therapist: Sounds tough, but you’ve dealt with anything like this before?

Kendal Grey: I mean, my freshmen year in College, I had a Lisfranc Injury, so I had to red shirt. And it sucked sitting on the sidelines, watching everyone chase their dreams, having opportunities, having matches, and I was just there, existing, just like I am now. But the difference was, when I had the Lisfranc Injury, I could see it. But with this, I can’t.

Therapist: Alright, you came back from that, right? You won Three National Championships, so it seems like everything worked out okay that time, what’s so wrong with having to slow down?

Kendal Grey: This time just feels different, it’s not the same. I mean, in college, we had a plan. I knew I was gonna be cleared for the following season, but with this, I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t know when I’m coming back. It could be weeks, months, a year. I mean, I lost the NXT Women’s Championship. I was at the highest of highs, and in a snap of a finger, everything was gone. What if Kendal Grey doesn’t come back the same? What if I’m not as fast, as smooth? What if everything that makes me, me, is gone?

Therapist: It’s a lot to unpack, and we’ll get there. But for next time, I just want you to think about, who is Kendal Grey if she’s not competing?

Kendal Grey: Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know.

Saquon says that he would be fighting for the NXT Championship right now if it wasn’t for Tristan Angels, and now his ass is too scary to show up to work. Saquon tells Stone to fix this issue. Shiloh offers Saquon some tips about blinding Angels with red mist. Saquon was about to give Shiloh some money before Stone got upset about this proposition. Saquon calls Shiloh, Bill Nye. Saquon handles his business in the parking lot. Stone says that they can revisit these issues next week, and maybe he’ll make some matches official. Saquon and Shiloh walk away talking about raccoons.

– Outside of the WWE Performance Center, the recently suspended Wren Sinclair was having a meet and greet in front of the NXT Merchandise Truck that’s place to the side of the WWE Performance Center. Stone told Sinclair that she had to leave the premises, because she’s still suspended.

Third Match: Kelani Jordan & Zaria vs. Thea Hail & La Catalina 

Zaria and Thea Hail will start things off. Hail immediately lunges at Zaria after the bell rings. Zaria blocks The Kimura Lock. Jordan tags herself in. Jordan tells Zaria to get out of the ring. Legacy mentioned that Dorian Van Dux suffered a punctured lung last week, and now he’s not medically cleared to compete. Legacy says that he has a replacement in mind. Dorian Van Dux appears out of nowhere and says that he’s ready to fight. Legacy stresses the point that DVD is not cleared to compete and he needs him to be at 100% for The Dusty Cup. EK Prosper will be DVD’s replacement.

Cruz Montana & Dion Lennox Segment 

Cruz Montana: YERP! Hey yo, NXT, what’s good? Now, check it, I walked into NXT and I made my intentions clear as day, when I set my eyes on that NXT Title. But let’s be real, I haven’t been quite stacking those wins, but if you have been paying attention, your man hasn’t been losing either. My pops always said, we don’t take losses, we learn lessons. And I’ve been in this position before, and all it’s done is thrown gasoline on the flames, and make me want it even more, so I’ll tell you this. Whoever is walking out as NXT Champion, after Mason Rook and Grayson Waller throw hands, know that that NXT Title is mine.

– DarkState appears in the crowd.

Dion Lennox: Hey, Cruz. You’re really good at making yourself sound more important than you really are. You love that reputation. Nobody cares what you did or what you’re about to do. DarkState is gonna run through The Dusty Cup, so let them worry about championships. And you, you worry about what’s stands in front of you, which is nothing.

Cruz Montana: Shut your ass up, Dion. You seem to talk tough when you got your crew out here. So, how about you let your bum ass friends worry about The Dusty Cup, and you step through these ropes, and face me like a man, let’s get it.

Dion Lennox: Alright, alright, alright. Look, hey, we’re good, I’ve got this. Hey, Cruz, you were the guy in TNA, you wrestled all around the world, and you won titles in every promotion. I’ll give it to you. But just because you’ve been doing this your whole life, and you set up some dusty rings, you think you’re better than me? There’s a reason why athletes like me keep coming into this business and taking over. You shake at the idea of discipline. I am discipline. Structure. I never had nobody to clean my mistakes. I could’ve gone down that path, but I wasn’t gonna throw my life away, I worked too hard for mine. And last week, you said that EK Prosper was the future of this brand. Why? Because he had to eat dirt like you to get here? I ain’t never gonna relate to that, bruh.

Cruz Montana: Aww, bendito. Your feelings are hurt, because I said EK was the future of this brand, is that why you’re out here? First and foremost, homeboy, the only person who cleaned up my mistakes was the man that I look at in the mirror every single day. I had spent years overcoming those demons. I have busted my ass and have learned from some of the best in the game. Ask anybody that has known me for the last 20 years, and they’ll tell you, I’ve paid my dues every step of the way, homeboy. I have earned everything I’ve been blessed with in and outside of this ring. You ain’t got nothing on me, homeboy. And to be honest, you could’ve used some of that, because all that athletic ability that you always brag about, I’ll run circles around you in this ring, on this microphone, and in every aspect of this business, every single day. You walked into wrestling, because things didn’t work out for you anywhere else. You couldn’t cut in the NFL, they didn’t want your ass either. But check me, check me really quick, I didn’t get no messages on my Instagram about no tryouts, homeboy. I’ve earned my way in, every step, and there is nothing you or anybody could ever do about it. Because I’ll tell you this, I carry my family, my city and my culture on my back, while people like you walked in here and think that everything should be handed to you, and then you throw it on the floor, and step all over it. Get the hell out of here.

Dion Lennox: Hold on, hold on, hold on. You said, people like me, right? Wasn’t your mama a drug dealer? My wasn’t. I did everything right. D1 Athlete. Education. NFL Training Camp. I did things so right, that WWE practically begged me to come here. Yet, for some reason, you hear them, all these people hate me. But they love you. Why? Because Dion Lennox wasn’t a drug addict like him? And what, everybody wants to pat you on the back, because you got it all together now. And you walk around like some hero, when all you’ve done is become the man you should’ve been from day one. So, look, Cruz, let me tell you like this, you had to lose everything, just to become somebody. I’ve been somebody my whole life.

– We see Mason Rook talking to Robert Stone in his office. Stone wanted to congratulate Mason on becoming the new number one contender for the NXT Championship. He’s giving Mason an open mic tonight, and he can say whatever he wants to Grayson Waller. Mason appreciates that, because not only is Grayson Waller the NXT Champion, but he’s also the champion of running his mouth. Mason is not nervous, because he has things he needs to get off his chest. Hank & Tank joins the conversation. They tell Mason to just trust his gut; because Grayson Waller believes everything that he says. Hank says that Mason can do no wrong when he’s speaking from his belly. Hank & Tank are fired up to participate in The Dusty Cup.

Fourth Match: The Creed Brothers vs. Harley Riggins & Jaxson Presley In A First Round Match In The 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 

Julius Creed with a Jumping Knee Lift into Harley Riggins before the bell rings. Assisted Back Body Drop. Julius drives Riggins shoulder first into the steel ring post. Vertical Suplex/SitOut PowerBomb Combination for a two count. Connors transitions into a ground and pound attacks. Connors uppercuts Prosper. Following a snap mare takeover, Connors applies a rear chin lock. Prosper with heavy bodyshots. Connors with The Roundhouse Kick. Connors drops Prosper with The Springboard Stunner for a two count. Connors tags in Stacks. Prosper kicks Stacks in the face. Prosper rolls under a clothesline from Connors. Prosper tags in Fatu. Fatu with a series of clotheslines. Fatu with The Uranage Slam. Fatu follows that with The Bubba Bomb. Fatu with The Banzai Drop. Fatu shrugged off a SuperKick from King. King tags in Connors. Fatu with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex. Fatu hits The Pop Up Samoan Drop on King. Fatu nails Connors with The Running Hip Attack. The referee didn’t see Fatu tag out to Prosper, because he was distracted by Ariana Grace. Fatu tags in Legacy. Legacy goes for The 450 Splash, but Connors gets his knees up in the air. Connors rolls Legacy over to steal the victory. After the match, King starts shoving Fatu. Fatu uppercuts King. Fatu prepares for The Triple Z. Birthright pulls King out of the ring to make the save.

– Emily Agard had a backstage interview with Zaria. Due to the result of tonight’s tag team match, Zaria will be putting her WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship on the line against Thea Hail next week on NXT. Zaria says that there’s a difference in beating her in a tag match and beating her when this title is on the line. Zaria says that it won’t happen again. Izzi Dame joins the conversation. Dame found a clip of Zaria doing theatre from her school days. Zaria gets upset and storms off. Izzi wants to take over the interview now. Thea has no more friends, Zaria didn’t have friends in high school, and judging by the video she just saw, she can tell why. But that’s a story for another time, because no good deed goes unpunished.

Grayson Waller: No, no, no, no, no. He don’t need that, he don’t know how to use it. How are we feeling, Mason? These lights are feeling pretty bright. You’re feeling the pressure yet? Because I love this, this is where I want to be. I came to NXT with a few goals. One of them was to become NXT Champion, tick. Number two was to bring this championship back to the prestige it used to have. And in order to do that, I have to defend it against the best, and right now, ladies and gentlemen, Mason Rook is the best. But when I came back here, I wasn’t sure if anyone was hungrier than Grayson Waller. It turns out no one is hungrier than Mason Rook. But on the surface, this is crazy to say, we’ve actually got a lot in common, Mason. We do. We left our families, our friends, our lives, our comfort, everything, to travel across the world and chase our dream. But Mason, we’re not the same. You’ve been here like six months, lad.

You think you know what sacrifice is? I’m out here running marathons, you run to the front door to get your Door Dash order. And I can stand here and do a 20-minute standup routine on the fly, I could roast you like a pig at a luau, lad. But if I’m gonna stay real, this championship means too much to me than to take you lightly. I understand the challenge I have in front of me. I know who you are. You’re strong, you’re powerful, you’re creative in this ring. There’s no one on the planet that moves like you do at your size. There’s a reason you’re John Cena’s favorite wrestler. Hey, John, I know you can see me, don’t bet on the wrong horse. You are big, you are bad, but Mason when I look at you, it makes me sad. Because you’re so talented, you have so much potential, but you’re 75% in, lad. You got quit in you. You’re not willing to do that little extra bit of hard work to make yourself a face of a brand. I came back to NXT because of guys like you. You are soft, you are lazy, you are complacent, you are happy to be here.

And I saw it last week, I ran a half marathon, I jogged out here like it’s nothing. I see you out here in the ring, acting like King Kong. But I saw the quit in your eyes, and it’s the same thing I’m gonna see next week. Because I’m gonna take you to the deepest waters, and I’m gonna drown you. I’m gonna make you feel things that no one in this crowd has ever felt before, but I feel every day. You’re gonna be in this ring, you’re gonna be begging for air. Your lungs are gonna be burning, and your heart, your mind, your body, your soul, everything will tell you to quit, and you will. But this is getting too serious, you guys want to have fun? I want to have some fun. Mason, this is a microphone, this is incredibly important for any NXT Superstar, not that most guys backstage care about that. So, why don’t I hand you this, you find your balls and you tell me I’m wrong. Woah, woah, woah. Don’t eat it, it’s not a drumstick.

Mason Rook: Grayson, you could call me whatever you like, but there’s one thing I’m not, and that’s an idiot. You see, I know what you’re trying to do. You want me to come out here, stand in the ring, go insult for insult with you, so you can get the funniest reactions from the crowd. Who’s got the wittiest line. You’ve been wanting me to come out here, so you can try to hold a verbal execution of me. And actually, maybe I will give it a go. Maybe there is a theory you’re back here in NXT. Maybe just maybe, you didn’t quite fit The Vision up on the main roster. Or maybe you’re just upset that John Cena knew who I was before I even step foot in a WWE ring. But Grayson, this is your game, and I’m not gonna play it with you, because I know for a damn fact you can’t play mine. Because what I’m struggling to figure out is what you think is gonna happen when all of this is over? When there’s no microphone in your hand, there’s no punchline to hide behind, and that bell rings. You keep telling me how you’re gonna take me to deep waters. No, mate, you’re gonna be drowning in mine.

I didn’t just land in professional wrestling. I’m not here because I failed at another sport. I’m not here because I didn’t make it on another brand. And I’m certainly not here because I wasn’t good enough elsewhere. I’m here because I earned the right to be a WWE Superstar. And I’ll tell you exactly what I am, and that’s the best big man in the game. So, Grayson, when that bell rings, and you’re standing across from me, and that pencil neck of yours has got to figure out how you’re gonna keep 300 plus pounds off of me. Because undeniably great you are at running your mouth, when my hands are around your neck, and I’m crushing the air out of your lungs, you’re gonna realize really fast that you are way in over your head. And unfortunately for you, being great on the stick is not gonna save your sorry ass this time.
