Kevin Owens: This is definitely not the way I was hoping to come back to Ottawa. Let’s be honest here, in the last 12 years, I have lost many WWE Championship matches, but none of them felt as bad to lose as the one on Friday in Toronto. Because Friday, everything was perfect, everything. You see, I spent 17 months not knowing if I would get the opportunity to be back in this ring, and then when I finally heard that I could, when I finally heard that I was cleared to get back in the ring, to see if I could get medically cleared to compete again, I got in the ring as soon as I could. I was told, it was going to take about four weeks, I did it in nine years, so I can be at SummerSlam, because I wanted to be in that Number One Contenders Match. I wanted to win that Number One Contenders Match. And not only did I want to go to Toronto, and win the WWE Championship, not just because I wanted to do it in Toronto in front of other Canadiens, but the real reason I picked Toronto is because I knew that my parents would be able to be at the show. Because two years ago, a lot of you would probably remember that I was standing in this ring, in Toronto, and told everyone that my mom had been rushed to the hospital, and she was fighting for her life. And thankfully she kicked out, she made it out, she’s still here. But since then, traveling has been a lot more difficult for her, going to shows has been nearly impossible.

But on Friday, she did something that, for her, it was a huge deal. Her and my dad drove from Montreal to Toronto, and she came to that show, and all I wanted was to win that title in front of her, but Sami Zayn made sure I wouldn’t do that. And you know, Sami and I have done a lot of messed up stuff to each other in our careers. I’m not innocent, either, I’ve put him through a lot, but this time, man, I can’t forget it, I can’t forgive it. Because it wasn’t just about winning the title, I will never an opportunity like that again, where all the stars aligned. In Toronto, in front of my Canadian fans, in front of my family, and getting to beat CM Punk for the WWE Title. Now, Sami, I’m gonna deal with you when the time comes, but CM Punk, on that night on Friday, everyone knows. I know, you know, I had you beat, I was better than the best in the world. But you got lucky and capitalized on Sami Zayn’s actions. But just know this, Punk, if you think we’re done, you’re dead wrong, bitch, we’re just getting started. I will not stop until I take that title from you.

CM Punk: Hey, nobody asked me my opinion on whether we’re done or not. Listen, pal, I don’t need Sami Zayn’s help to beat you, I had you beat dead to rights with The GTS. You want to do it, right here, right now? I’ll send you packing from Ottawa, like your last name was Thachuk, how about that, pal? Sign me up. No, I’m sick and tired of this, Nick, make the match.

GUNTHER: Well, enough of that. If I keep listening to that, my ears are going to start bleeding. But I think I figured it out, what it is with you two, why you two hate each other so much. Because when you look at each other, what you see is your arrogant, obnoxious, opinionated self. So, while you’re out here arguing about stuff that happen 20 years ago, I’m here to remind you what matters now. Hey, Kevin, you listen to me now, okay? Hey, Kevin, I’m glad your mom kicked out, but too bad on Friday, you didn’t. And Punk.

Finn Balor: Woah, woah, woah, woah. Slow down, fellas, I think you’re all forgetting about someone.

GUNTHER: Ladies and gentlemen, look at that, the ghost of Finn Balor came out here.

Finn Balor: GUNTHER, shut your mouth, you whiny little prick. I think I speak for everyone here when I say, we’re all getting a little tired of your act, mate. Kevin Owens, I love you, mate, but you’ve already had your opportunity. And besides, neither of you two fellas have beaten me. So, if there’s some line for the WWE Championship, the line starts right here, the line starts with me, the line starts with Finn Balor.

Nick Aldis: Alright, you know what, gentlemen, there’s really nothing more to discuss, and here’s why. Because Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, GUNTHER, you can face each other in a Triple Threat Match for the Number One Contendership. You can do it right here in Ottawa, in the main event of SmackDown, tonight.

– Tiffany Stratton runs into Chelsea Green in the backstage area. Tiffany loves Chelsea’s new face mask. Tiffany asks Chelsea if she’s really sure about getting back in the ring tonight. Chelsea spoke to medical, and she’s going out there. Tiffany reminds Chelsea about the 30-Day Title Rule, and she doesn’t want anything jeopardizing that. Chelsea appreciates Tiffany’s concern, but after everything they’ve been through with The Irresistible Forces, she’s not allowing Tiffany to go out there and fight this battle alone. Chelsea tells Tiffany that she’ll see her in the ring.

First Match: Tiffany Stratton & Chelsea Green vs. The Irresistible Forces

Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend will start things off. Legend side steps the basement dropkick. Legend applies The Bear Hug. Stratton crawls under Legend’s legs. – We see Nick Aldis talking to Danhausen in his office. Danhausen is glad to see Nick Aldis back as the GM of SmackDown. Danhausen says that he should be the Employee Of The Month. GUNTHER joins the conversation. Danhausen has been waiting forever to meet The Ring General. Gunther refuses to shake Danhausen’s hand. Gunther just wants a clarification about tonight’s main event, since Nick Aldis has this new trend of making spontaneous decisions at the last second. Nick confirms that tonight’s main event will indeed be a Triple Threat Match. Gunther doesn’t appreciate the fact that Nick continues to make him jump through hoops to get a proper shot at the WWE Championship. Nick appreciates Gunther’s concerns, but there will be no additions, no shenanigans, no funny games, just a Triple Threat Match, may the best man win. Danhausen asks Nick if he can be added to tonight’s main event. Nick wisely says no.

Second Match: Jacy Jayne (c) w/Fatal Influence vs. Paige For The WWE Women’s United States Championship

Jayne calls for a timeout after the bell rings. Jayne has a quick huddle with Fatal Influence. Jayne side steps the collar and elbow tie up. Jayne pulls Paige down to the mat. Jayne with a Running Senton Splash. Jayne poses for the crowd. Jayne goes for another Running Senton Splash, but Paige ducks out of the way. Paige SuperKicks Jayne. Paige HeadButts Jayne. – We got a video package on last week’s promo exchange between Cody Rhodes and Finn Balor.

– Cody Rhodes runs into Finn Balor in the back. Finn asks Cody if he’s good. He wishes. He’s just not sure what to do or say with this stipulation Nick Aldis put in last week, if Cody Rhodes or Randy Orton put their hands on each other before Sunday Night’s Main Event, they will never get another shot at the WWE Championship. Finn tells Cody to keep his cool. Finn says that Randy Orton is trying to pull Cody down a dark path. Finn has been down that dark path before, so don’t do anything that you can’t come back from. And besides, Finn is going to become the number one contender, so by the time Cody is done with Randy Orton, there’s going to be a new champion around here. Finn tells Cody to go handle his business. When Finn captures the WWE Championship, they can meet on the other side. Cody shakes hands with Finn. Cody tells Finn that he’ll see him on the other side.

– Coming out of the commercial break, we see Trick Williams chatting with Lil Yachty in the back. Trick appreciates the fact that Yachty was looking out for him last week, but he’s gotta keep it funky with him. This 5-minute exhibition with Baron Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event is no joke. For every piece of hair that’s missing on Baron Corbin’s head, he makes up for it with ferocity, he may be ugly, but he’s a monster. Trick tells Yachty that he can get this match canceled. Yachty says that he’s not standing for the disrespect anymore. Yachty didn’t forget that Corbin put him through a table at SummerSlam on ESPN. Yachty says that he’s going to survive the five minutes at Sunday Night’s Main Event, and after that, Trick will march down to the ring, whoop that Trick, and recapture the United States Championship, let’s talk about it. After Yachty walks away, Trick bumps into Baron Corbin. Do you know why Corbin doesn’t have any friends around here? Because they make you do something things. Corbin says that he’s going to whoop Yachty in Atlanta. Corbin doesn’t have to be entertaining, he’s already the champion.

Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton Segment

Cody Rhodes: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada! What do you wanna talk about? Let’s talk about, Randy Orton. And as much as I would like to beat Randy Orton senseless, here and now, I don’t know if that necessarily accomplishes the whole killing the Legend Killer Thing, right? And going all the way back to WrestleMania, this discussion, a great deal of the discussion has been around the number 15. 15, which last I checked, 15 is not a record, 18, sure, but I don’t think that’s in the cards for Randy Orton anymore. And besides, if anyone was going to actually break the record, it would’ve been Randy Orton. But every time, and we all know this, collectively, we all know this. Every time Randy Orton starts going up, Randy screws up. Every crossroads Randy approaches, every time he goes the wrong way. And you hear this stuff backstage, oh, that’s Randy being Randy. That’s Randy beating Randy, there’s always excuses, and it’s never his fault. Randy, I was there, firsthand, on multiple occasions when other guys got showed the door, you got slapped on the wrists, you got do-overs. And your shoulders could never hostler the accountability of your own actions. Now, Randy has screwed up again, by getting in between me and the most important title in WWE, and that is the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. So, at Sunday Night’s Main Event, it will not be Randy beating Randy, it will be Cody killing The Legend Killer.

Randy Orton: Accountability. You wanna talk about accountability. You’re right, earlier in my career, I had zero accountability. I made bad decisions after bad decision after bad decision. And you were right there, you had a front row seat for all of it. Actually, you had a driver’s seat, because I needed to be driven from town to town, safely. I needed a babysitter, I needed someone to be my bitch, and you called me, raised your hand, more than willingly to make sure I got tucked in each night. The hotels across the world, safely inside. You resent me for that, even just a little bit? Are you at a crossroads? If I were you, I’d punch me right in the face. Go ahead, take a swing. No? Well, how about that World Title, I know how much it means to you, because I know how much it means to me. And after my 100 day vacation after WrestleMania, when I kicked you in the face as hard as I could and left you disfigured for months, I decided to come back at SummerSlam to make sure that you didn’t beat CM Punk for the title, and that you didn’t take the gold home.

How does that make you feel? Piss you off, just a little bit? Wanna take a swing? What’s the matter, Cody, cat got your tongue? Oh, you’re more of a dog guy, aren’t you. What’s that dog’s name of yours, Pharaoh? You used to bring him in the back, he’d be backstage, everybody would be so excited, such a fluffy cool dog. Did that dog die? Is that dog dead? Did your daughters have to bury that dog in your backyard in Atlanta? What do you know, Sunday Night’s Main Event is in your backyard. Speaking of your backyard, you’re gonna have friends and family there, they’re gonna see me kick you in the face again, just like I did at WrestleMania. How do you like that, Code-Man? You know, come to think of it, are you gonna make sure your trailer park trash mother is gonna be sitting in the front row when I beat your ass? What about that trashy ass wife of yours, is she gonna be there?

Cody Rhodes: I know what you’re doing, and I knew that this is what you were going to do. You’ll do anything to get out of Sunday Night’s Main Event, right? You want me to hit you right now? I am counting the days until Atlanta. I am counting the days until Sunday Night’s Main Event, when we find out if you really are this once in a lifetime generational superstar, like my dad used to be or are you a first class screw up like yours was? You wanna hit me, it looks like you want to.

– Jackie Redmond had a backstage interview with Tatum Paxley. Tatum says that her minds has been racing with so many thoughts, ideas and voices. Tatum tells Jackie a secret in her ear. Jackie says thank you and walks away. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss appear. Tatum had the best time at Alexa’s Birthday Brunch. She apologizes for the blood thing, that was a bit crazy. Charlotte says, maybe it three wasn’t a crowd. Alexa says that Charlotte is gonna have to deal with it, because they’ll be facing Jade Cargill and The Baddies at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Charlotte tells Tatum to not make her regret standing up for her. Tonight, Tatum has the opportunity to show the world what she can do. Alexa says that they’ll be out there to make sure nothing bad happens. Tatum hugs Charlotte. Tatum says that they’re going to be the best of friends.

– PENTA & Rey Fenix Vignette.

– Byron Saxton had a backstage interview with Rey Fenix. Fenix says that he loves his brother, but this is his moment. He will become a World Champion. Ricky Saints appears. Ricky says that it’s really cute that Fenix is getting to fight his brother for an opportunity at the World Heavyweight Championship. It’s such a cute little story, but let’s skip to the part that we all know. Fenix will lose the tournament, and then he’ll have to come back to SmackDown with his tail between his legs, and then he stops ducking Saints and give him an opportunity at the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship. Fenix says that Ricky is so funny, he has a story for him. Fenix wins the tournament, he wins the World Heavyweight Championship, then he comes back to SmackDown to shut Ricky’s mouth, because he doesn’t have what it takes to win a championship.

Third Match: Tatum Paxley w/Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs. Michin w/Jade Cargill & B-Fab

Michin ducks a clothesline from Paxley. Michin pie faces Paxley. Michin talks smack to Paxley. Michin with a waist lock go-behind. Paxley floats over into a front face lock. Paxley pie faces Michin. Paxley avoids The Roundhouse Kick. Paxley sends Michin across the ring. Paxley leapfrogs over Michin. Paxley slides under a clothesline from Michin. Michin does a Spider Man Pose in the ropes. – Jackie Redmond had a backstage interview with Blake Monroe. Why would she choose to jeopardize her own debut match by attacking Giulia during her entrance last week? Blake says that she didn’t jeopardize anything, that match was beneath her. And quite frankly, if Jackie was good at her job, she would ask Nick Aldis why he would put a superstar like her in a match like that in the first place? When there’s an opponent up to Blake’s standard, and an entrance worthy of The Glamour, then she will make her debut. Giulia attacks Blake from behind. Giulia viciously beats down Blake.

– Kevin Owens runs into Randy Orton in the back. Randy hates to admit this, but Kevin was right about Cody Rhodes. Kevin is giddy that Randy has seen the light. Randy tells Kevin that he didn’t forget that he dropped him on his head, this doesn’t mean that they’re friends. Kevin tells Randy that they’ll work on this, but he has a match to win, he’ll call him later.

– MFT Vignette.

– We see Damian Priest talking to R-Truth in the back. Priest says that he’s been having a great time teaming with Truth this Summer. However, with them no longer being WWE Tag Team Champions, he’s getting a sign that it’s time for them to go in different directions. Truth says that they need to stick together. When Priest came to SmackDown, his main goal was to win single championships, he needs to get back to that. Priest says that he’ll still have Truth’s back. The War Raiders joins the conversation. They’re upset, because Wepa Time lost the tag titles to The MFT’s. Priest reminds The War Raiders that they were in the match as well. Truth says that if The War Raiders, they’ll put their AAA World Tag Team Titles on the line against them. Erik says that they’ll have no problem having that match in Mexico City and putting WEPA Time out of misery. Truth accepts the challenge. Truth just wants one more ride with his friend in Mexico. Truth hugs Priest.

– Nia Jax tells Nick Aldis that she wants her WWE Women’s Championship Match. Nick says that Chelsea Green still needs to be evaluated by the doctors. Nia is getting tired of being screwed over. Nia says that if Nick doesn’t give her this title match in two weeks, then she’s going to take it by force. The Miz and Kit Wilson appears. Nick is glad The Miz can talk in complete sentences again. Kit tells Nick to wake up, because while he was booking himself into matches at SummerSlam, they were electrocuted under his watch. Kit calls Nick toxic. You always keep your receipts. Miz says that Nick owes them one. Next week, The Miz and Kit Wilson can battle Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki. Miz has another lesson to share, you’re not part of the locker room until you’re showed the ropes, Miz styles. Welcome to the Dojo, Rookie.

Fourth Match: Kevin Owens vs. GUNTHER vs. Finn Balor In A Triple Threat Number One Contenders Match For The Undisputed WWE Championship
