The Rules Of Being A Role Model

Thank you, Tony. Rule #3, flip it, it’s all about me: Don’t Hurt The Role Model. I’ll be frank, last weeks egregious tandem assault on me, that left me with a broken tibia, it wasn’t an accident, it was, in fact, a conspiracy, a conspiracy that goes far and beyond. Let’s take a look at Exhibit A. Here, we see a three on one calculated attack, probably in the making for months, maybe even since AEW started. Let me be clear, I am close personal friends with the top TNT Executives. Without me, there is no women’s division. Flip it, Reba. Kris Statlander, you being an alien is a crock of shit, conspirator, flip it. Hikaru Shida, broke my nose, fraudulent champion, cheater, carries a weapon, conspirator, flip it.

Nyla Rose, I’ve seen Nyla come off the top rope, hundreds, maybe even thousands of times, with precision and grace, so you mean to tell me that she couldn’t have gotten herself away from my fragile leg? I think not, conspirator, get the board. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I present to you, the evidence. Here we have, a web of evils, all centered on the brains of the operation, Madam Aubrey Edwards, coincidence? She just so happens to be around every single time I get injured? Concussion, Aubrey was there. Broken Leg, Aubrey was there. Broken Nose, Aubrey was somewhere, right? You all have been put on notice. You tried to take me out, but the joke is on you, because I will be back at All Out.

Cody Rhodes Promo

Tony Schiavone: In this ring Saturday night, The American Nightmare became the first ever TNT Champion, congratulations. It was a big moment for your career, it was a big moment on PPV, and then on TNT, of course.

Cody Rhodes: Thank you! I guess I got a question for you, even though you’re doing the interviewing. Tony, do you know why Tom Brady is my favorite quarterback?

Tony Schiavone: I don’t.

Cody Rhodes: It’s not because I’m from the New England scene. I’m well liked in Boston, I don’t think I welcomed back in Connecticut, it’s a little simpler. Tom Brady was not first picked, yet he ran the score up, his legacy endured. And the parallel, or at least in my head, the parallel is that, in Tony Khan’s mind, when Tony Khan thinks of AEW, and he thinks about making a merit based wrestling company, a bell to bell based wrestling company, naturally, he’s gonna want to recruit the best wrestlers in the whole world. So, I wasn’t the first call, I wasn’t the second call, I wasn’t even the third call, but it doesn’t bother me. And if there’s a tinge of bother, it is absolved by the fact, that in my right hand, is the TNT Championship, and I am the very first champion of America’s Greatest Network, because that’s a thing.

If you think that my story was one of, nepotism or favoritism, think again. My story was of a 21 year old kid, who got called up to TV, when I barely knew how to hit the ropes, Billy knows all about that. Wasn’t ready, took my bumps, paid my dues, and I grew up right in front of you. I didn’t get the dominate genes, Dustin got all the Dusty, I’m not the Simba in this tale. But respectfully, I think I got something better. See, right now at home, I got a mean ole mom, this little cuban lady, Michelle, you know her. She’s got a broken ankle, she’s probably standing on it, and my mother taught me everything I need to know about grit, about work. It isn’t about talent, you can have all the talent in the world, and you can shove it up your ass. If you stand next to me on the track, I’ll out run you, i’ll out dog you, i’ll outlast you, I’ll out work you.

And, if you’re someone who is critical, of me bell to bell, well, I ask that you to judge me by what I do next. Because I’m about to turn a pace, I’m about to cut a schedule like no wrestler before. It is official, in this moment, I will stand out here every week for the AEW TNT Championship, this is an open challenge. Now, for those watching at home, we are still in the pandemic era of wrestling. Broadway is dark, wrestlers are without our greatest asset, the fan, but you gives us two hours of your time every Wednesday Night. If you could see me, I’m look right at you. You bought this PPV in mass, you blew projections away, it is my obligation to give you the best. So follow me, because this is where the fun begins. Thank you, Tony.
