John Cena & Cody Rhodes Contract Signing

Adam Pearce: Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time for the official contract signing for the Undisputed WWE Championship Match at SummerSlam. Please, join me in welcoming the challenger, “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes.

– Cody Rhodes signs the contract

Cody Rhodes: So, San Antonio, what do you want to talk about? I appreciate that warm reception, making me feel like a Texan. My father was a Texan, my brother is a Texan. They were outlaws, and all I ever wanted to be was like them. I had the opportunity to do something different; I got to be the WWE Undisputed Champion. This past week, I posted something on social media. And the moment I pressed send, it was over analyzed, it was scrutinized, it was dissected, that was never my attention. The jist was simple, I said, do not flinch, and thank you for riding with me. The do not flinch, that might have been for myself, because I did not flinch when just up 35, I returned at WrestleMania, and I came back home.

I did not flinch when I stood across a future Hall Of Famer, with a muscle hanging off the bone. I did not flinch when I stood across from The Beast. I did not flinch when I went back-to-back at the Royal Rumble, one of them in this very city. I did not flinch when I faced my friend, my brother, Jey Uso. I did not flinch when I faced my mentor, Randy Orton. And I did not flinch when politics, and The Final Boss came for my soul and came for my spot. But I flinched at WrestleMania 41 against one of the most beloved wrestlers in the history of our sport, against John Cena. I understand, believe me, I understand, it is an unenviable task to be the one trying to take it away from, again, perhaps the most beloved wrestler in the history of our game. But nonetheless, it is task that I was born for. At SummerSlam, it is one match for the rest of my life. And I know I signed, it takes two for this dance to work, so Mr. Pearce, if you will.

Adam Pearce: And ladies and gentlemen, The Undisputed WWE Champion, John Cena.

John Cena: Stop, cut the music. Cody, sit down. No, give me a second, guys, hold on, give me a second. Hold on, Cody, I have bad news. I have some bad news, tonight. I am not going to be at SummerSlam. I know, first time you’re hearing this, and the look on your face. Tonight, this decision I had to take to the highest chain of command. Hear me out, please, okay. Everybody knows that I’m filming a big movie for Netflix in New York City. Netflix knows about this. There’s no surprises here. We talked, things have been transparent, I’m emotionally exhausted. And we all feel that it’s best that I do not physically compete at SummerSlam. Wait, no, no, no, no, let’s not jump to conclusions here. Hey, I know about earning stuff, and I’m out here to be the good guy, okay. You earned the rematch; you’re going to get your rematch.

We’ll do it in Paris. We can do it in Perth. But as far as SummerSlam goes, there is no way in good faith that I can sign this contract, okay? Now, woah, I know you’re upset, we’re all upset, okay, we’re all upset. There is nothing we can do here. There is nothing we can do, because if my name goes on the contract, Cody, I have to be at SummerSlam. We took this thing right up to the final minute, alright. Tough choice to make, but we all talked, everybody realized that I’m working really hard, emotionally, I’m just out of it. This is a tough decision, but this is what’s best for business, right now, okay. Guys, guys, really, hey. You guys don’t really know. You don’t even know how hard it was to even be here tonight. No, seriously, this is a Farewell Tour, you know. I wanted to give you guys fireworks. I wanted to give you guys a night to remember. But, hey, right now, physically, emotionally, this is all I can give you guys. I thank you so much, and I appreciate your understanding and your patience in this matter. Cody, thank you so much, I appreciate you, you’re going to get that rematch. Goodnight, San Antonio.

Cody is throwing haymakers at Cena. Cody slams Cena’s head on the ring apron. Cena with a reverse hammer throw into the steel ring steps. Cena rolls Cody back into the ring. Cena grabs the WWE Championship. Cody avoids the running belt shot. Cody kicks Cena in the gut. Cody nails Cena with the running belt shot. Cody lays Cena flat on the table. Cody with a straight right hand. Cody grabs the contract. Cody delivers The Flying Splash through the table. Cody forces Cena to sign the SummerSlam Contract

Cody Rhodes: John Cena, check the fine print, it’s not just a match for the title at SummerSlam, it’s a Street Fight!!!
